Riyan Parag Calls for Respect: A Message to IPL Commentators

In the high-octane world of the IPL, performances are dissected, celebrated, and often scrutinized under a microscope. But Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag has drawn a line in the sand, urging commentators to keep the conversation about cricket — not personal criticism.

Speaking during the post-match press conference following RR’s commanding seven-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match 64 of IPL 2026, Parag — who missed the game due to injury — made a heartfelt appeal to those behind the mic.

“Talk About Cricket, Not Players”

“We perform according to the expectations of the crowd. So, I feel, we should all love cricket and look at it in the same way,” Parag emphasized. “Players are working very hard. It is very easy to say, if a team gets all out for 75 or 80, that they do not know how to play or have the mindset to play. But before that game, there is 3-4 days’ preparation to ensure how we can score 200-250. But sometimes it doesn’t happen.”

He continued, “We are humans too and we make mistakes too. So, I feel, as much as it is happening outside, especially the commentators, their voices are reaching out to the people. I would request them to love cricket. Talk about cricket.”

The 24-year-old skipper’s comments come amid growing scrutiny around player behavior and media narrative, including recent personal controversies involving Parag himself — from a debated celebration to a BCCI fine over a vaping incident. Yet, his message remains focused: cricket deserves better commentary.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Explosive Knock Steals the Show

While Parag wasn’t on the field, his teammates ensured the Royals stayed alive in the playoff race — led by a breathtaking performance from 15-year-old opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

Sooryavanshi smashed a blistering 93 off just 38 deliveries, smashing 7 fours and 10 sixes, to dismantle LSG’s 220-run total. In a display of fearless cricket, he turned the momentum early and set the foundation for a clinical chase.

Parag reserved special praise for the young star: “I think it was his best innings. When he was 5 off 10 or 11, there is always two ways to go. But he took his time. That first big shot off Mayank Yadav over covers gave me satisfaction that he may be small, but he has a larger understanding of the game. “

Rajasthan Royals Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

With Parag sidelined, Yashasvi Jaiswal stepped up as stand-in captain and contributed a quick 43 off 23 balls. Dhruv Jurel added an unbeaten 53 off 38, helping RR chase down 221 in just 19.1 overs.

Earlier, LSG posted a formidable total thanks to Mitchell Marsh’s 96 off 57 and Josh Inglis’ 60 off 29. But the Royals’ batting firepower proved too much.

The win keeps Rajasthan in the thick of the IPL 2026 playoff race. They are set to face Mumbai Indians in match 69 on Sunday, May 24 — a clash that could define their tournament journey.

What’s Next for Rajasthan Royals?

With confidence surging and young talent shining, the Royals are eyeing a deep playoff run. Parag’s leadership — even from the sidelines — continues to shape the team’s identity: resilient, passionate, and unafraid to speak up for the spirit of the game.

As the IPL 2026 season hurtles toward its climax, one message is clear: let the players play, and let the commentators talk about cricket.
