Litton Das Criticizes Kolkata Knight Riders for Disastrous IPL Stint

Bangladeshi cricketer Litton Das has made some damning statements about his former side, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The wicketkeeper was a part of the side during the 2023 season and managed to play just a single game, scoring four runs.

The cricketer then had to head back home due to a family emergency, cutting his stint short. Das was a guest on the Char Chokka podcast, where he said: “Felt that KKR didn’t really want me. Didn’t get the support from the team as I expected”.

Poor Communication from KKR

During the course of the podcast, the 31-year-old went on to say that the former IPL champions lacked proper communication. “Players are usually informed before the game if they are part of the XI or not. Having already sat out two games, the franchise failed to communicate with me properly and there wasn’t any discussion either. Suddenly at 11 PM the night before a game, I was told about being part of the playing XI.”

Litton Das Shines in Test Match Against Pakistan

Litton is currently playing the second Test match for his national side against Pakistan in Sylhet. The 31-year-old has been having a great game with the bat, scoring a century and a fifty in the game.

A Dinajpur-born player scored 126 runs from 159 balls in the first innings to help the hosts reach 278 on the board. In the second innings, the veteran batter scored 92-ball 69 with five boundaries before falling to Hasan Ali. At the time of writing, Bangladesh were placed at 241/5 with an overall lead of 287.

Bangladeshi Players in the IPL: A Brief History

The first Bangla player to be part of the league was left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak during his stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2008. The following year, former skipper Mashrafe Mortaza was part of the KKR franchise and played a single game.

  • Rohit Sharma, playing for the erstwhile Deccan Chargers, had famously smashed the pacer to all parts of the ground.
  • The most successful players from the neighbouring country on the eastern border were Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman. Both players had played a key role in Kolkata and Sunrisers Hyderabad’s title wins.
  • Other notable players to be part of the league were Mohammad Ashraful for the Mumbai Indians and Tamim Iqbal for the defunct Pune Warriors India side.
