An Age-Defying Display in Dharamshala

Virat Kohli, the former India skipper, once again proved that age is just a number. During the Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) match on Sunday at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, the 37-year-old produced a breathtaking fielding performance that had fans and pundits in awe.

While Kohli’s batting has often stolen the headlines, it was his relentless energy in the field that became the talk of social media. Videos of the veteran diving, sliding, and stopping certain boundaries went viral, showcasing a level of fitness that defies his years.

Social Media Erupts in Praise

Fans were quick to commend Kohli’s commitment, even in a long season. One user captured the sentiment perfectly, posting on X: “37 yo Kohli, father of two, covering half the ground like a man possessed. Greatest athlete this country has ever produced.”

Another fan drew a comparison, saying, “If this was Glenn Phillips, the internet would’ve broken. This guy is 37?! 😭 Absolute unreal athleticism.”

The overwhelming reaction was summed up by a user who simply stated: “37 years old and still moving like this on the field. Virat Kohli’s fitness and athleticism are genuinely unreal. King refuses to age.🙏”

With the Bat: A Record-Equaling Knock

Earlier in the day, Kohli had already made his mark with the bat. He scored a solid 58 runs, getting back into the reckoning for the Orange Cap. During his innings, he achieved a significant milestone by bringing up his 210th fifty-plus score in T20 cricket, equaling the legendary Alex Hales on the all-time list.

Just when he looked set for a bigger score, Kohli was dismissed on the final ball of the 15th over. He was caught by Priyansh Arya off the bowling of veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

The Match in a Nutshell: RCB Qualify for Playoffs

While Kohli’s all-round efforts stole the spotlight, the match itself had several key moments. For Punjab, Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck early, dismissing Priyansh and Prabhsimran Singh inside the first three overs. Shreyas Iyer also fell cheaply for just one run, leaving PBKS reeling at 19/3 in the fourth over.

Cooper Connolly played a counter-attacking knock of 37 off 22 balls, while Suryansh Shede (35 off 22) and Marcus Stoinis (37 off 25) provided valuable middle-order contributions. The highlight for Punjab was a late assault from Shashank Singh, who smashed 56 off just 27 balls, including four boundaries and four sixes.

However, the best bowler on the day was RCB’s Rasikh Salam Dar, who finished with impressive figures of 3/36 from his four overs, helping restrict Punjab to a manageable total.

With this victory, the defending champions, RCB, became the first team to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs and currently sit at the top of the points table.

Post-Match Reaction

Stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma, reflecting on the win, said, “We were in control of the game, be it with the bat or ball. There was no pressure, since we knew how to bowl on this wicket after batting first. There were plans for their batters and we are pleased with the effort.” Venkatesh Iyer, who scored his maiden fifty for his new side, was named Player of the Match.
