LSG vs CSK: Mitchell Marsh’s Carnage Innings Leaves Ruturaj Gaikwad Awestruck
The match 59 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has come to an end. As in the reverse fixture, LSG took their revenge over Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. This was the second victory for the Super Giants in this season at their home ground.

The Super Giants spoiled the party of the Men in Yellow’s playoff qualification scenario by beating them by 7 wickets. Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Super Giants made some changes, as they brought in Mayank Yadav, Akash Singh, Mukul Choudhary, and Abdul Samad to the side. CSK brought in Spencer Johnson and Gurjapneet Singh, coming into the team.
After being asked to bat first, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson had a decent start. But a former CSK pacer, Akash Singh, came in to haunt his former franchise, as he picked the first wicket of Gaikwad and then followed Samson on 13 and 20 runs respectively. Urvil Patel, who was the star when these two sides met last time, was also back, scoring 6 runs.
CSK’s Batting Performance
Kartik Sharma and Dewald Brevis stitched a beautiful 70-run partnership between them for the fourth wicket. The former scored 71 runs, and Brevis played a knock of 26 runs. After the wickets of these two batters, Shivam Dube and Prashant Veer scored 32 and 13 to set a target of 187/5 in the 20 overs.
LSG’s Chase
While chasing it was a one-way traffic from Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis as the former went berserk on the night, smashing mercilessly at Ruturaj Gaikwad’s bowling attack. The two completely took the game away as they stitched a 135-run partnership for the first wicket.
Inglis scored 36 runs, and Marsh, who was batting on 90, was out in the most unfortunate way as Nicholas Pooran played a shot straight and Mukhesh Choudhary got his hand, and the Aussie skipper was found out of the crease, missing out on the well-deserved hundred. Pooran gave the final touch, scoring 32 off 17 and winning the game for the Super Giants.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and CSK will be tense after this loss, as their qualification scenario might have just dented a bit, with two more matches in hand and a run rate falling after this hefty loss. Ruturaj Gaikwad and his men need to win big in the next two remaining games against SRH and GT.
Ruturaj Gaikwad after the loss said, “I felt there was a bit of something for the fast bowlers. You know, when we batted, we found it difficult to hit it off the hard lengths probably, their bowlers executed it really well. But I think we were looking at 160 or 170 and we ended up getting 180.”
“So I thought, probably nothing much better we could have done from a batting point of view, but I think credit to them. They batted really well and never know if the pitch got better or not, but I think they played some extraordinary shots. (Talking about bowling short balls) We were looking but you know, Josh Inglis, he played differently last game.”
“So we had to come up with a plan and definitely Mitch Marsh is someone who plays the short ball really well. So I think we were just looking to hit that hard length, proper test match length. We felt that there was something, ball was nibbling around well, but I think he hit some really good shots.”
