Shanto’s Return: Bangladesh Hopeful for Dhaka Test Against Pakistan

Najmul Hossain Shanto made a brilliant century in the final ODI against New Zealand, but later had to deal with cramp during the match. After the game, he sounded confident and said he was recovering quickly.

Now the focus shifts to the two-match Test series against Pakistan, which begins in early May. Shanto is Bangladesh’s Test captain, so naturally there has been concern over whether he will be fit in time for the first Test in Dhaka on May 8. For now, the news appears positive.

Training and Assessment

The Bangladesh Test players who are not part of the T20I squad are currently training in Mirpur under coach Sohel Islam. Shanto also visited the training camp, and reports suggest the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) remains hopeful about his availability for the opening Test.

BCB doctor Dr. Debashis Chowdhury shared an encouraging update with Cricbuzz. He said, “The injury did not look too serious to me. He (Shanto) will come on April 28, and we will assess him properly. From what I have heard and the information I received, it does not seem like a major issue. Right now, he has no pain, and he is able to walk without discomfort. Still, we will conduct a full physical examination.”

Series Overview

Bangladesh will begin their two-match home Test series against Pakistan on May 8 in Dhaka. The series is part of the ICC World Test Championship.

  • First Test: May 8-12, Dhaka

Bangladesh will be looking to start the series on a positive note, and Shanto’s return will be a significant boost to the team.
