Allott, 54, brings a rare blend of on-field experience and deep administrative insight to the role. During his playing days between 1996 and 2000, he represented New Zealand in 10 Tests and 31 ODIs. His standout performance came during the 1999 ODI World Cup, where he emerged as the joint-leading wicket-taker with 20 wickets at an impressive average of 16.25despite playing one fewer match than co-leader Shane Warne.

Allott has been shaping New Zealand cricket from behind the scenes for over two decades. He was a founding board member of the NZC Players Association in 2002, laying early groundwork for player representation. Between 2008 and 2010, he served as General Manager of Cricket at NZC, overseeing core operations and development pathways.
His leadership extended to Canterbury Cricket, where he spent three years on the board, before ascending to the NZC Board for an eight-year tenure from 2013 to 2021. In recognition of his contributions, Allott was awarded NZC Life Membership in 2022a testament to his enduring impact on the game.

Allott’s appointment comes at a pivotal juncture for New Zealand Cricket. He succeeds Weenink, who stepped down citing growing differences with provincial associations and the players union over the sports long-term vision.
