Bangladesh Eyes 300-Run Target Against Pakistan in Dhaka Test

Bangladesh finished day 3 of the Dhaka Test with a 34-run overall lead against Pakistan after taking a slim 27-run advantage in the first innings. With two days still left in the match, Mehidy Hasan Miraz believes the game remains evenly balanced, though Bangladesh are aiming to set a target close to 300.

The Mirpur surface has continued to favour the batters for most of the match so far. But according to Miraz, things could change quickly over the final two days as the pitch starts offering more help to the bowlers.

Miraz Optimistic About Bangladesh’s Chances

Speaking after the day’s play, the Bangladesh all-rounder said the team wants to put enough runs on the board to give the bowlers something to defend. “There are still two days left, so I think it’s still fifty-fifty,” Miraz said. “We haven’t got a huge lead yet. We have to bat responsibly from here. In Mirpur, it’s hard to say what a safe score really is. But we want to get at least a total that our bowlers can defend. I think somewhere around 290 to 300 could be a good score on this wicket. Batting on Day 4 and Day 5 won’t be easy.”

So far, the pitch has remained fairly good for batting, but Miraz feels the nature of the surface will slowly change as the match goes deeper. “I think the wicket was good throughout the first three days,” he explained. “Even now, it’s still decent for batting. But naturally, on the fourth and fifth day it will become tougher. The same pitch has been used continuously and both teams have already batted once. So the batters will have to take responsibility. Whoever bats well on Day 5 will probably control the game. That’s why we should have some advantage later.”

Importance of Winning Test Matches

Miraz also spoke about the importance of winning Test matches and how much it means to the dressing room. “If we can stay in a good position in the Test cycle, it’s a big thing for Bangladesh cricket,” he said. “Winning a Test match is never easy. Whenever you win one, everyone becomes really happy. We won two Tests in Pakistan and the feeling was incredible. Everyone in the team enjoyed it. When you work hard for five days and then win a Test match, the feeling is completely different.”
