Honoring the DC Family

Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel, in a touching post-match interview, chose to dedicate the team’s triumph to two young supporters whose lives were cut short in a tragic road accident. Addressing the tragedy that struck the ‘DC Toli’ fan base, Axar said, “Lastly, after the tragedy involving some of our fans, post the last game against RCB, I just want to say sorry for the tragic loss, and this win is dedicated to them. Our DC family lost two young members.”

Head Coach Hemang Badani echoed these sentiments, explicitly naming the victims. “This win is for two young fans, Yagya and Abhav Bhatia, who aren’t with us anymore. You have done them proud; they were massive fans and were with us for a while. This is for them,” Badani shared, visibly moved by the loss.

The Tragic Circumstances

The tragedy occurred on the night of April 27th, following the Delhi Capitals’ clash with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Yagya (20) and Abhav (14) were traveling home on a motorcycle in Central Delhi when their vehicle was struck by a truck. The loss has sent shockwaves through the cricketing community. Reports from news agency PTI detailed the heartbreaking nature of the incident, noting that the youngest victim was on a phone call with his father when the accident occurred, leaving the family to receive the devastating news through a passerby who picked up the fallen device.

A High-Scoring Encounter

Despite the somber backdrop, the match itself was a spectacle of power-hitting. Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag, having won the toss, opted to bat first. The Capitals’ bowling unit made early inroads, with Mitchell Starc dismissing the dangerous Yashasvi Jaiswal and Kyle Jamieson removing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

However, the Royals roared back into the contest through a blistering 90-run knock from Riyan Parag off just 50 balls, complemented by a frantic, unbeaten 47 off 14 deliveries from Donovan Ferriera. The Royals finished their innings with a formidable total of 225.
