Bangladesh vs New Zealand: Second T20I Abandoned Due to Rain

The second T20I between Bangladesh and New Zealand was scheduled to take place at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram. The match was supposed to begin at 2 PM, but continuous rain delayed the start. In the end, rain had the final say as the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The toss was scheduled for 1:30 PM, but it could not take place. Both teams arrived at the venue, though a little later than planned. However, heavy rain made it impossible to prepare the ground for play. A downpour began just before noon and, although it eased slightly later, it never fully stopped.

The final cut-off time to start at least a five-over match was 4:50 PM. When conditions still did not improve by then, officials had no choice but to call off the game.

Rain had already affected Chattogram the previous day as well, with showers continuing for long periods. It became lighter in the evening, and the morning looked manageable, but another spell of heavy rain returned around midday.

Series Update

New Zealand are touring Bangladesh for a six-match white-ball series consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is. They lost the ODI series 2-1 after winning the opening game and then suffering back-to-back defeats. The visitors also lost the first T20I, which means Bangladesh still lead the T20I series 1-0.

The third and final T20I will now be played on May 2 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Bangladesh remain ahead 1-0 and will look to finish the series there.
