Mumbai Indians’ Disappointing Performance: Shaun Pollock Names Three Underperforming Players

Former Mumbai Indians player Shaun Pollock has blamed Trent Boult, Shardul Thakur, and Deepak Chahar for the franchise’s below-par performance in IPL 2026. The five-time champions have won just two of their seven matches, and are ninth in the standings.

Boult has played three matches, picking up one wicket at an average of 110 and an economy of over 12. Chahar has managed to dismiss one batter in three games at an average of 87 and an economy of over 13. Although Shardul has amassed six scalps in as many matches, he has recorded an economy rate of 13.57.

Pollock’s Verdict

‘Three players have let down Mumbai. Thakur, Boult and Chahar haven’t done well for the franchise. The 11 they are playing at the moment is far from the one they would have selected after the auction. That’s the biggest surprise,’ he said on Cricbuzz.

‘It seems they have too many options. It has been the case in the last few years. If they make it to the playoffs, they can get into action with all the experience they have. But for that to happen, they will have to beat SRH first. They are facing issues because of their strength. Rickelton hasn’t played after Quinton de Kock scored a hundred,’ he added.

MI will play against the SRH at the Wankhede Stadium on April 29. According to Pollock, Abhishek Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah are the X-factors for the upcoming match between the two franchises. Abhishek has amassed 380 runs at an average of 54 and a strike rate of 212.29 in 8 matches.

Bumrah has taken two wickets at an average of 105 and an economy of 8.07 in seven contests. With these players in top form, Mumbai Indians will be looking to turn their season around and make a push for the playoffs.
