Speaking prior to the IPL 2026 campaign, KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar highlighted Rinku’s growth within the group: “Over the years, we’ve seen Rinku Singh evolve not only as a cricketer but also as a leader,” Nayar explained. “For the past couple of years, while his performances have spoken for themselves, I think off the field, without saying a lot, he is someone that the team looks forward to [hearing]. We wanted a little more responsibility for Rinku to shoulder and I feel it’s the perfect time, after being a World Cup champion, to come in, take on that responsibility and help Ajinkya Rahane take the reins over.”

In the regional UPT20 tournament, Rinku led the Meerut Mavericks to a championship victory in 2024, followed by a runners-up finish in 2025. Under his command, the team secured an impressive 13 wins out of 18 matches across those two seasons.

Additionally, Rinku has gained experience in 50-over cricket, having captained Uttar Pradesh in List A matches since taking over from veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar prior to the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
