BCB Plans to Install Fans at Mirpur Stadium to Beat the Heat

Even in extreme heat, Bangladesh’s cricket stadium galleries are rarely empty. Fans continue to turn up in large numbers, showing their love for the game. Now, in an effort to make matchdays more comfortable, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to install fans in the stands.

BCB president Tamim Iqbal confirmed the move on Tuesday night (April 28). He also explained that the project is currently in a trial phase. The board first wants to test how effective and safe the system will be before expanding it across the stadium. For now, the plan is to begin at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Tamim shared the update on his Facebook page. He wrote, “We are trying to install this type of fan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Right now, it is completely an experimental step. We need to check whether the stadium roof structures can support these fans and how effective they will be once installed.”

If the trial works successfully in Mirpur, similar cooling arrangements could later be introduced at stadiums in Sylhet and Chattogram as well. Tamim said, “If we are satisfied with the results, then we will install these fans in the covered gallery sections of Mirpur. After that, we will try to bring the same system to other venues too.”

Aiming to Improve the Fan Experience

His goal is clear – to improve the experience for supporters, who remain the biggest strength of Bangladesh cricket. Tamim added, “It may not seem like a huge change, but even reducing the discomfort of fans a little would be a success for us. We are committed to improving the matchday experience for spectators, and we know that sometimes these small things matter a lot.”

The move is a step in the right direction, showcasing the BCB’s commitment to enhancing the overall experience for fans. As the trial phase commences, fans can look forward to a more comfortable and enjoyable experience at the stadium.
