BCB to Build Lord’s-Style Lounge for Bangladesh Cricketers
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had earlier introduced “captains’ cards” for former and current national team captains. While that move brought some criticism, many felt it created a divide between captains and other players. The board has now taken a new step that includes all national cricketers.
A special lounge and balcony, inspired by Lord’s Cricket Ground, is being built at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. This space will be exclusively for current and former national team players. It will offer a comfortable, modern environment where they can relax, whether there’s a match going on or not.
Project Details
BCB president Tamim Iqbal said the project was approved during the second board meeting of the ad-hoc committee. Work has already started, and it is expected to be completed within the next 3 to 4 months.
Tamim explained, “We introduced captains’ cards for the captains. Now we’ve started something for all national cricketers. I saw that some people were unhappy, but you have to give me a bit of time. It’s only been around 20-22 days. I took this decision in the second board meeting. If I hadn’t, none of this work would have started. Now the work is already underway.”
He also shared more details about how the space will look. “An entire block will be dedicated to national cricketers. Some seats will be removed to make it more comfortable and luxurious. There will be a full lounge setup inside and a large balcony. Hopefully, it will be ready in 2–3 months.”
Inspiration from Lord’s
The idea is to create something similar to Lord’s, where players can come not just on match days, but anytime. “We’re trying to make it like that. A big balcony, a nice view – players can come anytime, even just to have coffee and relax. The goal is to create that kind of environment. It should be ready within 3 to 4 months. The budget has already been approved,” Tamim added.
He also hinted at future plans, saying the board is considering naming different gallery stands after notable cricketers and organizers.
This new development is a positive step towards creating a sense of community and belonging among national cricketers, and it will be exciting to see the final result.
